Yachting Boom post lockdown

Increase in sales reported

UK yacht brokerages are struggling to find yachts to sell following a spike in new and second hand boat sales, which began during the summer following the easing of the COVID-19 restrictions.

Clipper Marine, based at Swanwick Marina, believes it has been three times busier than normal. Boats under £100,000 and under 40 ft were selling 'in hours' of being listed, while those between £100k and £150k were sold in days.

Michael Schmidt & Partners, at Hamble, usually has over 100 boats listed for sale, but that has now fallen to around 40 because of demand.

Marinas have also reported a spike in demand for berths, which means that some marinas cannot accommodate every visitor request. MDL has sold over 30 berths at Dartside Quay in Devon, and are now full and operating a waiting list.
