HSSC - COVID 19 Lockdown Measures

Message from The Commodore

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I trust you have all had a peaceful Christmas and New Year and that we can be hopeful of happier times in the months ahead.

Following the PM’s announcement last evening putting England into Lockdown, the Executive Committee have decided that, in order to comply with the Government’s new coronavirus rules, we have to put the following measures in place until further notice:

• The marina is now closed. As recreation and leisure are not permitted under the new regulations, we do not consider it appropriate to allow routine access to the marina.
• All planned boat lifts, mast and engine lifts are postponed until further notice.
• The Marina staff will continue to carry out daily rounds to check the safety and security of all boats. On request, the Marina staff will also access the internal cabins (subject to availability of keys) to carry out further inspection or actions should a member feel this is required. This service is offered free of charge to give members peace of mind that their boat is in a safe condition. If the Marina staff require a member to visit their boat for essential safety reasons the Club Secretary or Marina Manager will be in touch to arrange the visit.
• Any requests by members for access to their boats (in the marina or on lay-up) should, in accordance with Government direction, be for essential purposes only, and should be directed to the Club Secretary.
• Members may request access to their boat for themselves, for contractors, or for marina staff to undertake activities which are essential to maintain compliance with their boat’s conditions of insurance.
• Contractors will be able to continue to work on site – all contractors are to be booked in through the Club Secretary and not direct with the MGS staff.

We would like to reassure you that rounds will be carried out on a daily basis by the marina staff – you will only be contacted if you request an additional level of safety/maintenance checks or if we feel you need to visit to carry out an essential safety related task.

The MGS are operating at full strength and will continue to carry out routine security patrols of the outer marina pontoons and marina perimeter. This, together with the additional security lighting added last year, has significantly improved the security of the site.

Whilst it is up to individuals to comply with the Government’s coronavirus legislation (www.gov.uk/coronavirus), we ask members not to turn up at the site unexpected as you will not be allowed entry.

I know this news and these decisions will be difficult for us all, but we have a personal and collective responsibility to comply with the rules – for the safety or ourselves, our families and our friends. Please respect and support our Staff and the MOD Guard Service in policing them.

There are a few more difficult months ahead but, thanks to the introduction of the vaccines, there is now genuinely a light at the end of the tunnel. I very much hope that, by the summer, we will be able to get back out on the water, into the clubhouse, and start sharing each others company in proper ‘Hornet Style’. I’m already looking forward to the first BBQ of the year!

Thank you for your support, and stay safe!

As ever
