RNSA HSSC Spring Series Race 7 Results

From Ric Hanslip.

Thank goodness the forecasters sometimes get it right! With gale force gusts and sheets of rain sweeping through the Solent throughout the afternoon it was touch and go as to whether the forecasted disappearance of the weather front would really occur. But with the rain ceasing as crews gathered at their boats at 1700 spirits and faith in the forecasters were lifted. By the time the slightly depleted fleet assembled at Gilkicker Point the wind had eased to around 17 knots and the sky was rapidly clearing allowing the evening sun to shine through.
The SOOD set a course of a beat into the easing tide to NE Ryde middle followed by a kite reach to Browndown, gybe, kite reach to Kemps Key and closer reach home – asymmetric paradise!
Jambo and Sunshine shot off the start together with Jolly Jack Tar sighting the line a few boat lengths adrift. Sunshine slowly eased ahead but as joint scratch boat with JJT they were not that far ahead of Jambo at the windward mark. With the asymmetric kites fast closing on the reaches Jambo and JJT could not be shaken off and the 3 yachts were virtually neck and neck at the finish. Sure enough when the numbers were crunched Jambo took the chocolates with Sunshine and JJT closely following.
The clarity of the sky and the bright sunshine was a joy to behold as the yachts made their way back through the harbour entrance to a well-earned curry or pie at HSSC.
The final race of the Spring Series is next Wednesday 18 May with the first race of the Summer Series scheduled for 1st June.
