HSSC Weekly Update Thursday 20th February 2020

From the CLUB SEC

Dear Members,

Notice from the Cdre Reference Parking in FB3 – Notice attached – Please note this coming week will be busy with boat moves planned; Saturday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday - Do not block off access to boats or roadways.

Friday 28th February – 1830 Fish n Chip Supper with an open mic evening – Please Book through the Office

Berthing – Berthholders are requested to return to their correct berths by 8th March – if in doubt check with the office or the marina staff.

Showing of Member ID for Access – From Mar/Apr 20 the security staff will be changing from Corps Security (contract) to MOD Guard Service. With this in mind do not be surprised to be asked to show your Club ID for access – remember to carry it at all times and show to gate staff on entry.

Visitor Form for Contractors and other Casual Visitors – Too many contractors are turning up on site without notification – Please ensure a visitor form (attached) is completed and submitted to the gate staff. No form = no entry

Tailgating into FB3 – There are too many instances of vehicles tailgating others when accessing the site into FB3 – offenders are liable to penalty parking notices if caught.

Preparing for Lift and Working on Boats Laid Up – Please be ready for your lift in at least 3 days before the planned date and this includes having anchors and chains stored and ladders removed. Marina staff will be too involved in the lifting process to assist with you berthing so ensure you have other help at hand. When working on your boats please ensure you clean up any waste products (and dispose of responsibly) and take extra care not to cause extra work to other boat owners when rubbing down or sanding in strong winds causing dust and debris to deposit on their boats.

Halyards – Please check your halyards for correct slatting. The marina is already a noisy place without halyards clanking – not only does slatting damage your halyards but it is anti-social when others are trying to sleep! Some useful advice can be found at https://theboatgalley.com/quiet-clanking-halyards/

Unmarked Dinghies on the Pontoons – Please be aware that any unmarked dinghies on the pontoons have been removed by the Marina staff.

Sat 14th March – 1900 Strictly Social Dance Evening – By popular demand we have booked another fun dance evening. All are welcome and it matters not what your experience is with tuition being provided by a local Fun2dance teacher, Eileen Sinclair. Dress is casual and add a bit of sparkle if you wish. Cost is £15 per head including a welcome drink and finger buffet. Book is open.

Sat 14 March – 10.00am New member brief followed by Member’s Curry lunch – Date for the diary for new members joining the Club since Apr 19 to date – The Cdre will provide a welcome introduction to the Club followed by a walkround of the site. If you are available to attend please book through the office including details of any family or crew members.

Sat 14 March – 1200 Curry Lunch - £5 curry lunch.

Weather Conditions – Please take care when walking around the site including on the pontoons in cold and wet conditions. Whilst the staff and contractors will grit the areas likely to ice over we ask everyone to take extra care.

Unpredictable Weather and Securing of Boats – With strong winds forecast again over the next week please ensure your boat is secure with adequate fendering.

2020 Training Programme - The dates of all 2020 training courses are now available on the Hornet website. Full details will be published later in the year. Charges for these courses are less than those charged by commercial organisations and feedback from those who have attended previously has been very positive.

Toilets in FB3 - Members are reminded that we have a toilet facility available in FB3 adjacent to the Sultan boat building. Please keep these facilities tidy and leave in a good state ready for the next user. Do not deposit unwanted waste in the bins located in the toilets, take it with you.

Disposal of Rubbish - Please dispose of your gash responsibly - do not place hazardous waste in the Biffa bins.

Your Health and Safety is Important to us! - Please report any H&S breaches or recommended improvements and please follow the Club's H&S rules and guidance. If in doubt ask.
