Ladies and Gentlemen,

Last weeks Burns Night Supper was another huge success. It was a pleasure to see club members enjoying the event and a huge thank you to John and Melissa for the quality of food and service.

Events like this are an ideal opportunity for club members to volunteer and get involved. Thank you to Paul Anderson for his much appreciated efforts in arranging the event and performing President duties.

With good weather forecasted for this weekend I forward to seeing you at the club over the weekend.

Membership Review

A polite reminder that members still have the opportunity to comment on the contents of the paper up until Friday 9th Feb 2024.

As part of its review of the long-term strategy for the Club, the Board/Full Committee has conducted a review of the categories, criteria and benefits associated with club membership. The purpose of this email is to advise Members of the findings of the review and to invite comments.  Following the period of consultation (to 9 Feb), key issues raised will be presented and discussed with Members at an informal update on Fri 8 Mar. Final recommendations will be made to Full Members at the Clubs AGM on Fri 19 Apr. Subject to Full Members approval, the Clubs Articles of Association and Byelaws will be updated as required.

The review has made 7 proposals which, when taken together, should help develop a stronger, fairer, and more financially secure future for the Club. The background, detailed findings and proposals, including a table of benefits (p. 4), are in the consultation paper here:

[PDF] HSSC Membership Review_Consultation_Final_10 Jan 24.pdf

In summary, the review proposes:

  1. To remove the link between, and the current limit of, 3 Associate Members per Full Member.
  2. To broaden the scope of eligibility for, and improve the benefits of, Associate Membership.
  3. To create a new membership category of Family Member, at a significantly lower cost than Associate Member.
  4. To allow Full Members who are veteran members of the Armed Forces, and who live within 50 miles of the Club, to become berthholders.
  5. To remove the Honorary Life Membership & Veteran Membership categories, whilst retaining acquired rights for existing Life & Veteran Members.
  6. To consider applications for Corporate Membership, each being subject to its own Memorandum of Understanding which will detail the benefits and costs of the arrangements.
  7. To redesignate Service and civilian personnel while on the staff of the Joint Services Adventurous Sail Training Centre (JSASTC) and the Army Offshore Sailing Centre (AOSC) as Corporate Members rather than Temporary Members.

The work has been led by Steve Jones, a Full Committee Member & Director, on behalf of, and in consultation with, the Board/Full Committee.  Members are invited to provide comments on the content of the paper to Steve by Fri 9 Feb 2024, at  Individual acknowledgements and replies will NOT be sent, but the comments will be collated into a Q&A format and will be shared on, or after, 8 Mar.

Members seeking more information on the existing membership arrangements can find them in the Clubs Articles and Byelaws, available on the Club website:

Oil Disposal

Please dispose of used oil outside the marina office. The marina team will dispose of it for you. It is not acceptable to dispose of oil in any bins across the site or drains.

We are looking for volunteers to help organise upcoming social events for the club. Most events are run by volunteer club members, and we are looking for new members to contribute so we can continue to provide the wealth of events that make our club special.

No experience needed, just a bit of time and enthusiasm. You can help with a single event, or put yourself forward to be part of a small Social Committee.

We want your ideas, but are also looking for support for some currently planned activities:

Quiz Night 1st March

Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday

Boat Jumble 6th April

Waterloo Night 15th June

Last Night at the Proms Evening date 27th July

Families Fun Day 10th August

If you would like to volunteer, have any ideas for events that you would like to organise or would just like to chat through what would be involved without commitment, we would love to hear from you. Speak to Tania Anderson ( ) or Steve Little ( or chat with Brian in the Office

Boat Jumble Saturday 6th April at HSSC

This event is already proving popular. For full details of how you can secure a table please see the link underneath the flyer.
