Membership

Hornet Services Sailing Club exists to provide high quality, affordable and sustainable sailing and social facilities for serving and veteran members of the Armed Forces, including reserves & auxilliaries, and supporting MOD Civil Servants. Applications are welcome from anyone who meets this criteria, and their regular crew. Links to membership application forms are at the bottom of this page. There are 7 types of membership:

FULL MEMBERSHIP

Full Membership is ideally suited for boat-owners who wish to use the Club's marina, marina services, and/or make frequent use of the Clubhouse. Club Members are full, voting members of the Club.

Eligibility: Open to serving & veteran members of the Armed Forces (inc reserves and auxiliaries) and supporting MOD Civil Servants, who are also full members of RNSA, ASA or RAFSA.

Benefits:

  • Year-round berthing, lift & lay-up, storage and other marina services at highly competitive rates (See note 1)
  • 10% discount in bar & restaurant
  • Priority booking for Club functions
  • Entitled to attend and vote at General Meetings
  • Full Members of the Club for the purposes of Company Law and inclusion in the statutory register of members


FAMILY MEMBERSHIP

Family membership comprises one Full Member plus their spouse/partner and children under the age of 18. It is ideally suited to families who own boats and who wish to use the Club's marina, marina services, and/or make frequent use of the Clubhouse. Existing Full Members who wish to transfer to Family Membership should complete the 'Family Membership (Transfer) Form' below.

Eligibility: As for Full Member above.

Benefits: As for Full Member above.

  

ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP

Associate Membership is ideally suited for: Members who only want to use the Club's social & clubhouse facilities; make occasional use of the marina services; sail as regular crew on a Full Member's boat; or 'try' the Club before applying for Full Membership.

Eligibility: Open to serving & veteran members of the Armed Forces (inc reserves and auxiliaries) and supporting MOD Civil Servants; spouse/partner and sons/daughters of a Full Member; regular crew of a Full Member (must be proposed by the Full Member).

Benefits:

  • Unlimited use of clubhouse, bar and restaurant facilities
  • Marina services, including winter berthing and lift & lay-up, at Associate Member rates, subject to availability
  • Attendance at Club functions, subject to availability

Note: Associate Members are NOT members of the Club for the purposes of Company Law, and are NOT eligible to attend or vote at General Meetings.

 

VETERAN MEMBERSHIP

Veteran Membership is a sub-category of Full Member. It is open to any Member over the age of 65 who has been a berth-holder for at least 10 years and is no longer a berth-holder. Please apply at the office.

 

HONORARY LIFE MEMBERSHIP

Honorary Life Membership is a sub-category of Full Member and may be granted by the Board to individuals who have given exceptional service to the Club.

 

TEMPORARY MEMBERSHIP

Temporary Membership is granted to Service and civilian personnel, on a temporary, short-term basis, whilst: under training at the Joint Services Adventurous Sail Training Centre (JSASTC) or Army Offshore Sailing Centre (AOSC); sailing in a Services-related yacht based at or visiting the marina; or winter-berthing or lay-ing up (RNSA/ASA/RAFSA members only). Temporary members may use the Clubhouse, bar & restaurant facilities.


CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP

The Club has a number of Corporate Memberships with organisations which share similar or supporting objectives and values.  Each Corporate Membership is tailored and defined in a Memorandum of Understanding which is reviewed annually. 

Notes

  1. Veteran members of the Armed Forces & MOD Civil Servants may only apply for a berth if they live within 30 miles of the Club.
  2. The membership year starts on 1 December. Rates for membership are advertised in the annual Scale of Charges - see below.
  3. The definitive guide to membership is the Club's Articles of Association and Byelaws, which take precedence over any other information provided.
  4. FULLY COMPLETED application forms should be returned to membership@hornetservicessailing.org.uk or delivered to the Clubhouse office.
  5. Questions related to membership should be addressed to the General Manager at: hornetsailing@hornetservicessailing.org.uk.
