HSSC RNSA Wednesday 2024 Autumn Series Race 5 Results

From Ric Hanslip: The only yacht missing from the biggest fleet of the Autumn Series thus far was the rostered SOOD. Sunshine filled in with little notice so apologies from the organiser for the early error in the timing sequence as his wrist watch in normal mode was brought into play as he wrestled with course, sail selection, steering and VHF handheld to get the race away on time.   With the

HSSC RNSA 2024 Wednesday Autumn Series Race 4 Results

Ric Hanslip is away but here's what URSUS did: 5 knots off Gilkicker on the transit out then a huge Cumulonimbus gave 28 knots and heavy rain.  Luckily we were all in full foulies and had the working Genoa and a reef in the main.  The course was good and we were able to make good use of the back eddy after leaving Stokes Bay pier buoy to port and finishing inside the green

HSSC RNSA 2024 Wednesday Autumn Series Race 3 Results

From Ric Hanslip: HSSC Wed Autumn Series Race 3 Report A crazy night of Snakes and Ladders. The fable of the Tortoise and the Hare was also pertinent!   Lightning, the SOOD was sitting at Gilkicker point contemplating options. In the central Solent was a light northerly as forecast, at Spithead and off Bembridge a very light south easterly and   in Stokes Bay and off Gilkicker - zero. What

HSSC RNSA Wednesday 2024 Autumn Series Race 2 Results

By Ric Hanslip: HSSC Wed Autumn Series Race 2 Report Summer returns albeit probably only briefly, but it was sufficient to get the crews out in their shorts once again. The yachts who arrived early at Gilkicker for the second race of the Autumn series possibly did not expect to race. 3 knots from a vaguely south westerly direction did not inspire confidence, yet by the start time of 1830 the breeze had

HSSC RNSA 2024 Wednesday Autumn Series Race 1 Results

HSSC Wed Autumn Series Race 1 Report ....and very Autumnal it was too! Fortunately the 18-20Knot south westerly was over an east going tidal stream so the wave pattern off Gilkicker point was relatively benign.   Sunshine the SOOD set a short course of a beat into the tide to Mother Bank, a run to Stokes Bay Central and a kite reach home.   At the start gun

HSSC RNSA Wednesday Summer Series 2024 Race 8 Results

By Ric Hanslip: The Met office forecast was spot on with the 10 knot south easterly moving to the south west as the fleet converged on Gilkicker at 1800 for the final race of the Summer Series. Alas for Ursus, the smallest boat in the fleet the forecast was also for winds to ease which they duly did and this with the tide turning to the west prevented a finish within the race time

HSSC RNSA Wednesday Spring Series Race 8 Results

By Ric Hanslip: A West-Southwest wind of 18 gusting 20 knots provided challenging conditions fo r the final race of the Spring series, although the east going tide was usefu l in helping to reduce the sea state off Gilkicker point.  Jambo, the SOOD set a course of a beat to SE Ryde middle,
