Ladies and Gentlemen,

We hope you are well.  Things seem to be getting busier which is nice to see. Good news is the coffee machine is back up and working and hopefully will continue delivering great drinks.  Just a few things to bring to your attention please:

Saturday - 21st March.  There are events being held at lunchtime and the evening on 21st March for the Solent Shrimpers and Rona SC.  The full menu will be available as normal but there may be some delays in service at times; please bear with us.

Boat Jumble - 22nd March.  The Boat Jumble is being held this Sunday. and whilst there are no tables available in the Clubhouse we still have some external tables available to book via functions@hornetservicessailing.org.uk.  More details below.

Club Night and Talk - 27th March.  Following our packed out talk on Fort Gilkicker last week, at which we had over 80 members, we will on 27th March be welcoming Sally Tyrell who will be talking about the Mary Rose.  This will be preceded between 1800 and 1900 with a Happy Hour when we will, for this month, offer 50% off ALL drinks.  We are expecting this event to be popular so if you are intending to eat, options for the night on the poster below. Please let the Club know by 0900 on 26th March.

Updated Scale of Charges - Lift and Hold in Slings (1 hour) and Casual Berthing (up to 4 hours).  Following comments from the Members Brief which was held in February 2026, the Committee has reviewed and updated the Scale of Charges in two areas, to provide better value for money for all members.

The charge for 'Lift and Hold' in slings (1 hour) will be reduced to back to 22/23 rates plus inflation e.g. the cost for berth-holders will be £110. Please remember that the availability of this marina service is strictly limited especially at the peak periods of lift out and launch.

The charge for casual berthing (up to 4 hours) - previously £15.00 will be removed; the aim being to encourage short stays, especially to use the Clubhouse for lunch.

Please see the updated Scale of Charges, which comes into effect from 1st April 2026.

Volunteers needed.  I hope you enjoy the functions being put on and understand the work that goes in to arranging them. We are currently looking for people to help organising the Eurovision Night on Saturday 16th May and the Families Day on Saturday 18th July. Would anyone who is willing to offer some time please email Tania tania.anderson@hornetservicessailing.org.uk

Haslar Road Closure 8th - 14th April.  Following the filling of the cracks recently we have been informed that Haslar Road will again be closed in sections for resurfacing for the period 8th -14th April. Access to the Club will be maintained in the same way as before and I will try and keep members informed of the progress. We have moved the Coffee Morning scheduled for 9th April to 16th April.

Club Closure - 15th April.  Owing to electrical works being carried out by SSE the site will have no electricity on 15th April between 0800 and 1600. As such the Clubhouse will be closed on this day.  We will plan to open for the evening to support the racing but if works overrun, we may have to cancel at short notice.

Hornet Racing and Rally programme.  Details of the 2026 Hornet Racing and Rally programme can be found below.

Car Passes.  Members are reminded that all cars parked on site should be registered and must display a valid car pass.  If you have not updated your car pass(es) with the 2026 sticker please come to the office and do so.  If you are unable to get to the office during its opening hours (Tue-Fri, 10:00-15:00) please email admin@hornetservicessailing.org.uk and sticker(s) will be left in the member's pigeonholes.  We also have a limited stock of cards for the FB3 barrier available for a deposit of £8, which will be available from this Sunday's Boat Jumble and then from the office during normal opening hours.

Regards, Kieran
