Published 15:05 on 2 Apr 2026
Note from the General Manager: Hornet presently has an IT problem resulting in this Weekly Dit not being sent to some email addresses, mostly .gmail addresses. It is being investigated. Ladies and Gentlemen, We hope you are well and making the most of the longer days and better weather. A quick reminder the Office will be closed on Bank Holiday Friday and Monday but we are opening the Bar until 1700 on Monday; please come down and enjoy the fine weather. There is now a set of dominos behind the bar if anyone wishes to play. The new workboat has arrived and is being prepared for its role. With some trepidation I am sending out a request for suggestions of a name for this boat - I have been advised it's not going to be Boaty McBoatface! Please send any suggestions to me by 16th April for the Committee to decide and announce at the AGM. Just a few other things to bring to your attention please: St George's Day Club Night - 24th April. The Club Night on 24th April to celebrate St George's Day will incorporate another, 50% off drinks, Happy Hour. This precedes the Club Rally to Cowes, so why not come down enjoy the night and stay on your boat before setting off, feeling slightly shabby, for Cowes. Haslar Road Closure 8th - 14th April. Following the filling of the cracks recently we have now been informed that Haslar Road will again be closed in sections for resurfacing for the period 8th -14th April. Access to the Club will be maintained in the same way as before and I will try and keep members informed of the progress. We have moved the Coffee Morning scheduled for 9th April to 16th April. Club Closure - 15th April. Owing to electrical works being carried out by SSE in Blockhouse, the site will have no electricity on 15th April between 0800 and 1600 and so the Clubhouse will be closed on this day. We will plan to open for the evening to support the racing but if works overrun, we may have to cancel at short notice. Electricity Cables. Please will anyone who has been using a club meter cable on the pontoon please return them to the Marina Office. Commodore's Dinner - 22nd May. The book is now open for full members to put their names down for the Commodore's Dinner on 22nd May. More details can be found below. HSSC Branded Clothing. Various items of branded clothing are available from the Club Office. Details can be found here. Volunteers needed. I hope you enjoy the functions being put on and understand the work that goes in to arranging them. We are currently looking for people to help organising the Eurovision Night on Saturday 16th May and the Families Day on Saturday 18th July. Would anyone who is willing to offer some time please email Tania tania.anderson@hornetservicessailing.org.uk Car Park Barrier Fobs. Fobs for the FB3 car park are available from the office for a deposit of £8. Coastal Forces Heritage Trust. HSSC has a deep connection to the Coastal Forces story. The Navy ran small fast craft out of here from 1915 until the late 1950s and its a terrific story of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. The Coastal Forces' Memorial is here and the annual Remembrance Service is a highlight of the Hornet calendar. The Coastal Forces' Heritage Trust is building a landmark monument to Coastal Forces and the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve which will be located at Victory Gate over in the Historic Dockyard. A million people a year will see it and, hopefully, be inspired. To help raise funds, the Trust is running an online Crowdfunding Event over the weekend of 8-11 May. Please support the Appeal and if you would like to get involved, get in touch with fundraising@coastal-forces.org.uk or speak with Richard Farrington. SAILGP Portsmouth. The SAILGP event will be returning to Portsmouth in the summer, please see the poster below. Regards, Kieran | ||
