Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am delighted to have joined the Hornet team this week and very much look forward to getting to know you all over the coming weeks. Please do pop in and say hello when you are next here. With many thanks to Kieran for sharing his time and knowledge with me, and for all he has given to the club in the last few months. He looks forward to enjoying the club as a member again.
The Armed Forces Day music and barbecue is happening this Saturday 27th June so we are expecting it to be busy. The barbecue will be 1300 to 1500 and there will be music from Helena Maskell from 1400-1700. Whilst it may be slightly cooler at the weekend we do not plan to host this function fully outside, the music will be audible both in and outside, so people can sit where they feel most comfortable. If you have pre-booked your food, please pay at the bar and collect a ticket. For anyone who hasn't pre-booked, food will be served on a first come, first served basis once all pre-bookings have been catered for.
JSASTC Showers.  As a reminder the JSASTC showers are for use by JS staff and students only.
Haslar Bridge
Due to extreme temperatures, the recently resurfaced bridge and approach areas to Haslar Bridge have been melting. This has already been reported to Hampshire Highways - reference 7196471 but please do take extra care when using the bridge for the time being.
Change to weekend Bar and Galley opening hours. From Monday 29th June the Galley will continue to close at 1400 but last orders will be at 1345 to ensure enough time for the Galley staff to clear down within their working hours. If you arrive after 1345 please do still ask at the bar as the kitchen team will be as flexible as they can. The Bar and Galley remain open on Saturdays from 0800 and in the bar on Sundays until 1700. Additionally, due to staff holiday the galley will not be opening for dinner service on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th July, the bar will however remain open as usual. We apologise for any inconvenience that this causes.
Regards
Jess
Portsmouth Clubs Regatta Returns in Style
After an absence of many years, the Portsmouth Clubs Regatta made a highly successful return over the weekend of 19 and 21 June, bringing together sailors from across the eastern Solent for a memorable celebration of competitive racing and camaraderie. The ethos behind the event is all about making racing more accessible.
The Organising Committee consisted of Hornet Services Sailing Club, the Royal Naval Sailing Association, Portsmouth Sailing Club, the Victory Class, The Tempest Class and the Chichester Cruiser Racing Club.  The Regatta, hosted by HSSC, incorporated class racing, the International Tempest Class National Championships and the inaugural Pompey Cup, attracting an impressive first fleet of 34 boats - 12 yachts, 8 Victorys and 14 Tempests.
The event provided great racing in a good range of challenging conditions off Portsmouth.  This was complemented by excellent social events at both PSC and HSSC.
Race Officer, Phil Warwick, and his team received widespread praise for delivering a professional and well-organised event.  Their efforts ensured fair and competitive racing across all fleets while maintaining the welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that was at the heart of the event.
The return of the Portsmouth Clubs Regatta represents a significant achievement for the local sailing community. Competitors expressed their enthusiasm for the events revival, with many hoping that its success will establish the regatta once again as a regular fixture in the Solent racing calendar.
