Kelp Monitoring Survey Bembridge - KHM Portsmouth LNTM No. 59/25

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the King's Harbour Master Portsmouth that survey operations will be conducted by the Environment Agency (EA) for Seagrass and Kelp off Bembridge, Isle of Wight. This activity will commence 2 June 2025 and is expected to last no more than 7 days.
2. The sampling platform will be the 8.5m EA survey vessel SOLWAY SHEPHERD (MMSI 235091049) operated by Briggs Marine and Environmental Services Ltd.
3. The aim of the survey is to monitor and map the extent of the kelp beds in the proposed areas. The surveys will involve both drop-down video and echosounder monitoring. This will be followed by running echosounder lines over the same area at between 3 and 5 knots (See online for detail).
4. Mariners are requested to keep a good lookout and pass at slow speed while surveying operations are being conducted. The survey craft will maintain a listening watch on VHF Ch 11 throughout operations. 5. Portsmouth VTS will be kept informed of work in progress and will de-conflict movements with other marine traffic, if required. 6. Cancel this LNTM on 12 June 2025.
