Ladies and Gentlemen, We hope you are well. Things seem to be getting busier which is nice to see. We are still finding the gremlins have got into the coffee machine so apologies to those wanting 'proper' coffee. Hopefully Franke can sort soon. A few things to bring to your attention please: Saturday 21st March. There are events being held at lunchtime and the evening on 21st March for the Solent Shrimpers and Rona SC. The full menu will be available throughout but there may be some delays in service at times, please bear with us. Boat Jumble - 22nd March. The next Boat Jumble is being held on 22nd March. Tables are still available at no charge for members wishing to sell unwanted sailing items. Club Night and Talk - 27th March. Following our packed out talk on Fort Gilkicker last week, at which we had over 80 members, we will on 27th March be welcoming Sally Tyrell who will be talking about the Mary Rose. This will be preceded between 1800 and 1900 with a Happy Hour when we will, for this month, offer 50% off ALL drinks. Cribbage. A member has expressed an interest in starting a Cribbage group, if anyone is interested in coming along to play, please can they contact Tania on tania.anderson@hornetsevicessailing.org.uk Car Passes. Members are reminded that all cars parked on site should be registered and must display a valid car pass. If you have not updated your car pass(es) with the 2026 sticker please come to the office and do so. Regards, Kieran |
The Royal Navy Day by Day Many will be aware of the book, The Royal Navy Day by Day. It is a key ingredient and Bible of the Tot Ceremony conducted by the Royal Naval Tot Club of Antigua and Barbuda. This exhaustively researched book provides details of the exploits and events through history involving the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines on each specific day of the calendar and was last updated in 2018. A new publication is planned for 2026 and, courtesy of the Royal Naval Tot Club of Antigua and Barbuda, we've managed to negotiate a very attractive discount from the published price of this classic collection of RN/RM history through the ages. At present we've negotiated a discount from the anticipated published price of £90, bringing the price down to £54 per copy before postage and packing costs. Members of Hornet are being invited to join in with this offer if it is of interest (and this may help to reduce the price still further based upon the number of copies we can order). At this stage, all that is required is a confirmation that you are interested in being part of the offer, together with how many copies you would wish to order eventually, which you can do by either completing the online form at https://ask2gocloud.fillout.com/t/vSStuggaG9us or by emailing David Monks at david.c.monks@gmail.com |
BOAT JUMBLE - SUNDAY 22ND MARCH 10:00 TO 14:00 Bookings are now open for tables at the Boat Jumble. This is a great opportunity to sell any unwanted sailing, boating or water sports clothing, accessories, spare parts and more — both old and new. There will be no charge for tables, and once we receive your booking (via functions@hornetservicessailing.org.uk), we will send full event details. If you plan to bring any large items, please let us know in advance so we can allocate space appropriately. Members with just one or two items to sell are welcome to place them on the club table on the day. A club merchandise table will also be available, offering a range of Hornet-branded items including burgees. 2026 membership stickers and new style membership cards will also be available. Everyone is welcome to come along and browse for those useful sailing bits needed for the new season. There will be bacon and sausage butties on offer, along with fresh coffee from our new machine. |
