Ladies and Gentlemen,

For all members who I cannot see in person at the Staff Christmas drinks this Friday may I wish you a Very Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year. The Rear Commodore (House) and Rear Commodore (Sailing) have put together a full programme of social and sailing activities including dinners, rallies and corinthian races. I encourage all members and your family and friends to participate in as many activities as possible . Please remember that Hornet Services Sailing Club exists so we can all have fun together and enjoy each other's company.

Reminders and Updates

Brian is now on leave until he finishes work at the end of the month. We are sure you will join us in saying goodbye to him and thanking him for all he has done for the Club. We are sorry to see him go, but he will be back for a formal farewell at the Burns Night Dinner at the end of January.

Back Door: The lock on the back door has now been replaced and the code remains 1234 (if sticking please press F first to reset).

Staff Drinks: Dont forget about the Staff Drinks tomorrow. Come along to say thank you to all the staff and maybe win a prize in the raffle!

Berthing Invoices 2025-2026: Please note for those to whom it applies, annual berthing invoices should have been received, if not please can you let us know.  As a reminder, this is to cover the berthing period, 1 December 2025 to 30 November 2026 and is due for payment on 1 January.  For those paying for their berth by Direct Debit the first payment will be taken on 1 January.

Photo Competition: The photo competition winners will be announced in January.

Staff Fund

In recognition of the hard work our Clubhouse and Marina staff put in throughout the year, we will once again be organizing a Staff Fund, which will be shared amongst all staff members. This is a wonderful opportunity to show your appreciation for their efforts.

If you would like to contribute, please make a bank transfer to the Club account, using Staff Fund and your surname as the reference. Account Details are HSSC Ltd 30-98-97 45697963.

The cut-off date for contributions is 30th December. Thank you for your generosity and support

Club Closure Notice

We would like to inform members that the Bar and Galley will be closed from the 19th December 2025 following Staff Drinks and including 3rd to 9th January 2026 while we carry out exciting upgrades. These improvements are designed to enhance your experience and ensure the Club continues to offer the best possible service.

A evening function on Monday 22nd December will go ahead and all members are welcome to come along and enjoy a drink from 19.00 hrs.

The Bar and Galley will reopen on 10th January, and we look forward to welcoming you back to enjoy the refreshed facilities. Further details about the changes will be shared including the bar relaunch. Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we make these enhancements.

Volunteers Needed 

We are looking for a couple of volunteers help with the painting in the back room and helping refresh the bar. If you can spare some time on the 3rd and 4th of January please let RC(H) know by email: tania.anderson@hornetservicessailing.org.uk

New Members Brief

We would like to invite all new members, and any existing members whod like to join us, to a friendly introduction to the Club and its facilities on the 31st January from 1000. The session includes coffee, a brief in the Fabrosa Room followed by an informative walk round of the site and a buffet lunch. Its a great chance to get to know the Club, meet fellow members, and ask any questions in an informal setting. If you would like to come along, please email functions@hornetservicessailing.org.uk

Hornet Racing & Cruising Committee

We are looking for a few willing members to join our Hornet Racing Committee and Hornet Cruising Committee. In order to grow and develop our incredibly successful racing and cruising programmes into 2026; increasing participation and introducing new events.

The committee will be chaired by Rear Commodore (Sailing) Lt Cdr Dan Murphy, on behalf of the Full Committee and will have responsibility for the planning of the racing and cruising calendar, facilitating events, preparing sailing and racing instructions, engagement with Service Sailing Associations and other clubs.

If you've got ideas, experience, or just want to be part of the action, we would be grateful to have you aboard, if you would be interested in volunteering, please express which committee you would like to be part of (Racing or Cruising) contact Dan Murphy dan.murphy@hornetservicessailing.org.uk

Ladies Lunch

Calling all Hornet Ladies….  It can sometimes feel a little daunting coming to the club if you dont know many people, which is why we started the Ladies Lunch. A relaxed gettogether, a chance to meet other likeminded Hornet Ladies, enjoy some friendly conversation, and share lunch in a welcoming atmosphere. Its all about making connections and having a lovely time together.
