Ladies & Gentlemen, We are all set for the HSSC Big Buoy Challenge and Summer BBQ tomorrow! We have had a fantastic response from members who are joining us for the BBQ as we celebrate Armed Forces Day, enjoy live music, and welcome back our yacht racers in style. We also have an outside bar for the sale of Powder Monkey beers. There is still time to enter your boat in the challenge—just get in touch with the office to sign up. Wishing you all an enjoyable weekend ahead! Regards, Brian
Stewart Peters Retirement As many of you are aware, Stewart Peters will be retiring at the end of July, following over 30 years of dedicated service to Hornet. Stewart has been a cornerstone of HSSC — a pivotal figure whose exemplary commitment to members over the years has left a lasting legacy. He has been a pleasure to work alongside, and his presence will be greatly missed. To mark his retirement, Stewart has chosen to hold his leaving event on Saturday 9 August, coinciding with our Families Day and Summer Party. It promises to be a fitting and memorable occasion to celebrate his contributions and wish him well for the future. Donation If you would like to make a donation as part of Stewarts farewell, please contact the office or make an online payment via BACS using reference Stewart Peters.

HSSC Electrical Cables Invoices have been issued to those members who have returned the cables. However we are outstanding a number of cables that have not been returned preventing the office from invoicing accurately. If you are in possession of HSSC Cable and it has not been returned and had the reading recorded then please return it to the Marina Office. The accurate reading of the meters is to ensure the standard daily charge is not applied and large invoices being accrued into next season. Power Outage Tue 15 JUL 2025 Scheduled Power Outage: Please note that on Tuesday 15 July there is a planned electricity outage for site maintenance. The entire site (clubhouse, marina, FB3 galley, and office) will be without power and closed for the day. We apologise for the inconvenience and recommend planning any visits or boat work on other dates. Normal service will resume once power is restored. Haslar Bridge Closure 28 Jul 2025 to 05 Aug 2025 Hampshire County Council has scheduled a full closure of Haslar Bridge, including pedestrian access, from 0930 Monday 28 July to 1400 Tuesday 5 August. Please plan accordingly, as this will cause some inconvenience accessing the Club during this period.

Tempest Southern Championships Last weekend, HSSC proudly hosted the Tempest Southern Championships. Over three days, the fleet competed on set courses both within the Harbour and off Southsea, making the most of varied and exciting sailing conditions. We were delighted to welcome entrants from across the country, alongside Hornet members who are well-established figures in the Tempest class. A special thank you goes to long-standing Hornet members Derek Budden, Ralph Budden, and Charles Hawkins, who continue to play a vital role in promoting Tempest racing. We also extend our thanks to club member and RNSA CEO Phil Warwick for his professional race management, and to Vice Commodore Paul Anderson and Tania Anderson for volunteering and providing Moonfleet as a committee boat. Well done to club members Shellie Rogers and Paul Davis, who also volunteered their time and expertise to help ensure the success of the event. It is always a source of pride to see Hornet members come together to support and deliver top-quality racing events. I look forward to welcoming more racing activity to Hornet in the near future.
