Ladies & Gentlemen,

We have another exciting weekend ahead on the water with the HSSC Nab Tower Dash taking place this Saturday. There is still time to get involved—just contact the office to enter and join the fun!

Please also note that there will be a site-wide electrical outage on Tuesday due to essential maintenance works. As a result, the clubhouse and office will be closed for the day, and electricity to the pontoons and FB3 will also be affected.

Wishing you a fantastic weekend and enjoy the great weather.

Regards

Brian

Haslar Bridge Closure

Hampshire County Council has scheduled a full closure of Haslar Bridge, including pedestrian access, from 0930 Monday 28 July to 1400 Tuesday 5 August.

The Bridge currently is currently open, however we do not know how long that will remain.

Please plan accordingly, as this will cause some inconvenience accessing the Club during this period.

HSSC Site Wide Power Outage 15 July 2025 (This Tuesday)

Please note that that the power outage is confirmed for the 15th July, it will be a whole day evolution.

The clubhouse will be closed all day and this will also include pontoon and FB3 electricity.

I apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Stewart Peters Retirement

As many of you are aware, Stewart Peters will be retiring at the end of July, following over 30 years of dedicated service to Hornet.

Stewart has been a cornerstone of HSSC — a pivotal figure whose exemplary commitment to members over the years has left a lasting legacy. He has been a pleasure to work alongside, and his presence will be greatly missed.

To mark his retirement, Stewart has chosen to hold his leaving event on Saturday 9 August, coinciding with our Families Day. It promises to be a fitting and memorable occasion to celebrate his contributions and wish him well for the future.

Donation

If you would like to make a donation as part of Stewarts farewell, please contact the office or make an online payment via BACS using the reference Stewart Peters.

MOD / JSASTC Security Notice

It has been reported that 2 x bicycles (Pics below) have been left unattended for a considerable period, in the JSASTC staff bike shed (behind Bldg 158).

We believe they may belong to Hornet members, if you are the owner please have them moved to the shelter by the main gate.

If no owner is identified by Fri 25 Jul 25 (2 weeks), it will be disposed of.

Members Notice RE: Weekend of 25 - 26 July 2025.

Please note that on the weekend of 25-26 July we will have lots of visitors on site. As ever I am proud of HSSC members who always afford a warm welcome to visitors, guests and potential future members.

The galley will be affected due to staffing constraints with breakfast and lunch menu as normal. However there will be no dinner service that night.

COMPLIMENTS FROM THE ROYAL AIR FORCE SAILING ASSOCIATION FOR THE SERVICES OFFSHORE REGATTA 2025

It is always a pleasure to share praise received for the efforts of the HSSC Team. Please see the much appreciated comments below from Rear Commodore RAFSA Offshore Gill Burgess.

On behalf of the Royal Air Force Sailing Association, I would like to extend our sincere thanks to Hornet Services Sailing Club (HSSC) for your invaluable support in hosting and assisting with the organisation of the Services Offshore Regatta (SOR).

The support and hospitality extended by HSSC made a significant contribution to the success of the event, and we are particularly grateful to the Front of House Team for serving competitors refreshments throughout the first day of the SOR. Our deepest thanks also go to Kirstin Westover for her exceptional assistance and coordination throughout the planning and delivery of the event including the use of the Fabrosa Room to conduct introductory briefs to over 50 competitors.

Offshore sailing offers a unique and powerful platform for developing key attributes among our service personnel. The rigors of offshore racing foster teamwork, leadership and mental agility skills that are essential to the operational effectiveness across the UK Armed Forces. Moreover, time on the water offers a valuable opportunity for rest, reflection and personal development, all of which contribute significantly to the wellbeing and mental health of our service personnel.

As many of our vessels are berthed at HSSC, we greatly value the close and ongoing relationship between our organisations. We look forward to continuing this collaboration and support each other in the future for our mutual benefit.

Yours,

Gill Rear Commodore RAFSA Offshore

RNSA 90 Great British Cruise and Challenge Finale

Our friends and colleagues at RNSA are underway with their Great British Cruise and Challenge boats and are making their way around Britain. A good number of yachts have joined in at various legs along the way and the yachts are now heading down the East Coast towards Harwich. I believe that everyone who has been involved - even for a day - has enjoyed the event.

The yachts will return to the Solent 25 & 26 July.

  • If you have a boat, why not join them at East Head in Chichester harbour on the evening of Friday 25 July? An impromptu BBQ on the beach might be a glorious thing!
  • Then sail with them back to Gosport on Saturday morning 26 July, heading for Hornet Services Sailing Club.
  • There will be an afternoon event on Saturday 26 July, including a BBQ (John the chef at Hornet is renowned for excellent scran) and the bar will be open.
  • Don't worry if you have not got a boat. Come by car, train, plane, bike...
  • Don't worry if you haven't been involved in the GBC up to now.
  • Please bring your family and friends. We want to celebrate the achievements of the circumnavigators and the glorious legacy of RNSA's first 90 years!

Please let us know if you plan to attend by emailing Brian Gerrard, the General Manager at Hornet on admin@hornetservicessailing.org.uk. Please copy in Sophie at admin@rnsa.org.uk.
