Ladies and gentlemen,

As many of you will have noticed, excitement is building just across the water with SailGP taking place nearby at Southsea. Its a fantastic opportunity to witness world-class sailing action right on our doorstep we hope some of you will be able to catch a glimpse of the spectacle!

Back here at the Club, were taking a little time to carry out some essential maintenance around the site. These works will help us keep everything shipshape. Thank you for your patience and understanding while this is underway.

Whether you are out on the water, watching SailGP in the Solent, or simply enjoying a quiet drink at the bar, enjoy the weekend.

Brian

Important Update - JSASTC Visitor Form Issue

Our colleagues at JSASTC have developed an email IT issue that affects visitor forms.

If you intend to invite visitors / guests along to the club this Saturday, Sunday and Monday then the Visitor Notification Forms need to be emailed by 12 noon on TODAY.

Hopefully this is just for this weekend as they are hoping to have a repair or replacement for the faulty IT equipment early next week.

Printed Visitor Forms can be handed into the Security Office 24 Hours before your visitors arrive.

I apologise for any inconvenience caused and any issues please contact me directly.

Haslar Bridge Closure

Hampshire County Council has scheduled a full closure of Haslar Bridge, including pedestrian access, from 0930 Monday 28 July to 1400 Tuesday 5 August.

The Bridge currently is currently open, however we do not know how long that will remain.

Please plan accordingly, as this will cause some inconvenience accessing the Club during this period.

July Updated Lift Schedule

Select the below link to view the lift schedule.

Movement of Boats Within the Marina

If you wish to move your boat to any location other than your designated berth, you must first obtain direct authorisation from the General Manager or a member of the Marina Team.

Except in cases of emergency or safety concerns, no boat movements are permitted without prior approval.

Thank you for your cooperation.

TUES 05 AUG and WED 06 AUG GALLEY CLUB CLOSURE

Due to extensive electrical works the Clubhouse and Galley will be closed on 05 and 06 Aug.

The works are essential and will affect HSSC Club House and Galley on both days.

I apologise for any inconvenience.

Stewart Peters Retirement

As many of you are aware, Stewart Peters will be retiring at the end of July, following over 30 years of dedicated service to Hornet.

Stewart has been a cornerstone of HSSC — a pivotal figure whose exemplary commitment to members over the years has left a lasting legacy. He has been a pleasure to work alongside, and his presence will be greatly missed.

To mark his retirement, Stewart has chosen to hold his leaving event on Saturday 9 August, coinciding with our Families Day. It promises to be a fitting and memorable occasion to celebrate his contributions and wish him well for the future.

Donation

If you would like to make a donation as part of Stewarts farewell, please contact the office or make an online payment via BACS using the reference Stewart Peters.

Thank you: Andy Gatherer, Phil Carroll and Rowena Heale

I would like to say a huge thank you to club members Andy Gatherer, Phil Carroll and Rowena Heale for the work that they have been completing in and around the Clubhouse.

Andy has been very busy tiling the back bar area in the clubhouse. He has quietly got on with the job and to say I am impressed is an understatement. I am sure you will all agree Andys work has really transformed our bar area.

Phil has continued on supporting us with Plumbing work and all those of maintenance throughout the site and his efforts have been invaluable.

Rowenas dedication and expertise in tending to our green areas, in particular The Coastal Forces War Memorial year upon year is admirable. The site is better for it and I am really appreciative.  We are lucky as a club to draw on such talents and if you would like to get involved simply give me a call.

Thank you Andy, Phil and Rowena.

MOD / JSASTC Security Notice

It has been reported that 2 x bicycles (Pics below) have been left unattended for a considerable period, in the JSASTC staff bike shed (behind Bldg 158).

We believe they may belong to Hornet members, if you are the owner please have them moved to the shelter by the main gate.

If no owner is identified by Fri 25 Jul 25 (2 weeks), it will be disposed of.

Members Notice RE: Weekend of 25 - 26 July 2025.

Please note that on the weekend of 25-26 July we will have lots of visitors on site. As ever I am proud of HSSC members who always afford a warm welcome to visitors, guests and potential future members.

The galley will be affected due to staffing constraints with breakfast and lunch menu as normal. However there will be no dinner service that night.

RNSA 90 Great British Cruise and Challenge Finale

Our friends and colleagues at RNSA are underway with their Great British Cruise and Challenge boats and are making their way around Britain. A good number of yachts have joined in at various legs along the way and the yachts are now heading down the East Coast towards Harwich. I believe that everyone who has been involved - even for a day - has enjoyed the event.

The yachts will return to the Solent 25 & 26 July.

  • If you have a boat, why not join them at East Head in Chichester harbour on the evening of Friday 25 July? An impromptu BBQ on the beach might be a glorious thing!
  • Then sail with them back to Gosport on Saturday morning 26 July, heading for Hornet Services Sailing Club.
  • There will be an afternoon event on Saturday 26 July, including a BBQ (John the chef at Hornet is renowned for excellent scran) and the bar will be open.
  • Don't worry if you have not got a boat. Come by car, train, plane, bike...
  • Don't worry if you haven't been involved in the GBC up to now.
  • Please bring your family and friends. We want to celebrate the achievements of the circumnavigators and the glorious legacy of RNSA's first 90 years!

Please let us know if you plan to attend by emailing Brian Gerrard, the General Manager at Hornet on admin@hornetservicessailing.org.uk. Please copy in Sophie at admin@rnsa.org.uk.
